World Champion, Trailblazer & Ambassador for Women in Billiards

Anna Lynch

Anna Lynch is one of Australia’s most accomplished and influential cuesports athletes — a world champion, a long‑time Victorian powerhouse, and a global ambassador for women in English billiards. Known for her precision, discipline, and musical artistry, Anna has carved out a remarkable dual career as both a professional jazz pianist and one of the most successful women ever to represent Australia on the billiards table.

Her achievements have reshaped the landscape of women’s billiards, inspiring a new generation of players and elevating Australia’s presence on the world stage.

A World Champion and History‑Maker

Anna’s breakthrough moment came in 2019, when she won the World Women’s Billiards Championship at the RACV Club in Melbourne — defeating Judy Dangerfield 244–204 in a gripping 90‑minute final.
This victory made her:

  • Australia’s sixth world billiards champion

  • The first Australian woman to win the world title

  • Victoria’s fourth world champion in the discipline

Her world title cemented her place among the sport’s elite and remains one of the most significant achievements in Australian cuesports history.

Following her world championship success, Anna continued to dominate internationally, winning:

  • Women’s Irish Open (2021)

  • Women’s English Open (2021)

  • Irish Masters (2021)

These victories elevated her to World Number 1 on the World Women’s Billiards Tour — a ranking she held from the tour’s inception in 2020 through to 2023.

In 2025, she again reached the world championship final, finishing runner‑up to India’s Shruthi L, reinforcing her status as one of the most consistent and formidable competitors in the sport.

A Dominant Force in Australian Billiards

Before conquering the world stage, Anna built an extraordinary domestic record. Between 2003 and 2019, she won the Victorian Women’s Billiards Championship 16 times, losing only once in that entire period.
She also claimed the Australian National Women’s Billiards Championship (2019), compiling the tournament’s highest break and showcasing her trademark precision and composure.

Snooker, Early Beginnings & Sporting Versatility

Anna’s journey into cuesports began unexpectedly in the early 2000s, when she started playing eight‑ball casually between jazz gigs in Melbourne nightclubs. Encouraged by a local venue owner, she contacted the VBSA and soon transitioned into snooker — entering her first tournament just seven months after picking up a cue.

While billiards became her primary discipline, Anna also enjoyed success in snooker, including:

  • Runner‑up – Oceania Women’s 6‑Red Championship (2015)

  • Multiple appearances in Australian and international women’s snooker events

Her adaptability across disciplines reflects the same discipline and creativity that define her musical career.

Playing Style, Technique & Equipment

Anna is known for her strategic, rhythmic, and highly disciplined approach to billiards — a style often compared to the precision of her piano performances.

Key strengths include:

  • Consistent 40–50+ breaks in competition

  • A match‑high break of 92

  • A practice break of 120

  • Strong average scoring rates across international events

She plays with a Cue Craft cue fitted with a Blue Diamond tip, a setup that complements her smooth cue action and meticulous control.

Life Beyond the Table

Away from competition, Anna is a respected jazz pianist, concert performer, and music educator. She holds a degree in piano from the Victorian College of the Arts and has built a thriving career teaching and performing across Melbourne and beyond.

In 2023, Anna married fellow billiards champion Rob Hall and relocated to the United Kingdom, where she continues to balance her musical profession with international competition.

Her dedication to both art and sport — and her ability to excel at the highest levels in both — makes her one of the most unique and admired figures in cuesports.
